4-Star RB Sets Official Visit

Marcus Sims is looking for a school that needs running backs, and thanks to a phone call from his father the Florida standout and brother of current FSU linebacker Ernie Sims will be taking an official visit to Clemson.

Clemson assistant coaches Dabo Swinney and Burton Burns will also be in the Sims household this week. CUTigers.com recently spoke with Marcus' father to learn more about how events over the past week have the Tigers getting a strong look from the 4-star prospect.

As it stands now, Sims will be traveling to Clemson for an official visit in January. "Yes Marcus is coming for an official visit. He is coming on January 13," Mr. Sims said. "Marcus is going to take a look at these schools. We want to see which school best fits his academic goals and his football dreams. Marcus wants to run the football."

This is not your typical recruiting of a high school athlete according to Marcus' father. "His recruitment has been kind of different. We have added some schools and taken some away. When they don't meet the criteria we cross them out. We have eliminated Tennessee and Auburn. We added Alabama and Clemson."

So what does Marcus and his father like about the Tigers? "Clemson runs the football. They do a good job. Depth chart is definitely a factor. Coach Bowden is there.

"When I was a freshman at Florida State Tommy was a graduate assistant. What he has been able to accomplish at Clemson was very important. More than anything it is that they need running backs, not that they just want running backs. Marcus wants to go to a place where they need running backs.

"We were looking for schools in the southeast so I called Clemson last week. Coach Swinney called Marcus first. Then I spoke with Tommy. We had a good conversation. We talked for about 45 minutes to an hour."

Coach Swinney also visited the prize recruit last week at school, and an in-home visit is coming this week. "I just talked with Coach Swinney tonight," Mr. Sims added. "We are trying to setup an in-home visit for tomorrow night or Wednesday. Coach Swinney and Coach Burns will be coming I believe."
