2003 Profile: DB Jonathan Hefney

Ko Simpson isn't the only defensive back in Rock Hill drawing D-I attention. Jonathan Hefney has been hearing from schools all over the southeast, we've got the lastest on his situation contained in this report.

Jonathan Hefney (5'10,175,4.4) along with Ko Simpson will likely field one of the most talented defensive backfields in the state of South Carolina next season for Rock Hill High School.

Hefney registered 81 tackles (3 for loss) along with 5 interceptions and 2 sacks last season. He has legitimate 4.4 speed and outstanding pure coverage ability, returning 7 picks for touchdowns in his high school career. He's also cornerback by nature, and that's where he'll play at the collegiate level.

Jonathan has been hearing from a whole range of schools early on, including Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Carolina, N.C. State and even Ohio State. South Carolina, Clemson, N.C. State and Tennessee have been in contact the most, and those three schools are likely going to be the teams to beat in the end.

Hefney is also a standout point guard for the Rock Hill basketball team as he earned all-area honorable mention honors this past season while averaging just over 8 points a game.

With the combination of Hefney and Simpson- expect a big recruiting rush for both of these kids this fall. Simpson is likely going to be a safety at the next level- and he's the better hitter, but Hefney is better coverage guy.

Hefney isn't all about speed though, he can bench 240 lbs, and squat 400, and his vertical is 34 inches.

Both Hefney and Simpson will also be spending time at wide out this fall, and some schools are considering their respective skills on offense.

Several reports have South Carolina holding the slight edge with both of these these fine athletes right now, but remember- it's still very early.

We'll have more updates on both Jonathan Hefney and Ko Simpson as we receive more information.
