* Fairfield-Central defensive back Darius Gaither was one of the most highly rated uncommitted instate recruiting targets still on the board for the Clemson Tigers just last week.
Now, more than seven days after making his verbal commitment to Clemson, Gaither is just relieved to have the recruiting process behind him. "It is a relief," he said in an interview with CUTigers.com Sunday afternoon. "I was ready to get it over for a couple of reasons. Mainly, I just wanted to do it for my grandma. She really wanted me to stay close to home and we always felt comfortable with Coach Scott. What's not to like about him? He just makes you feel comfortable with everything."
* Gaither has already built a strong relationship with fellow verbal commitment DE Ricky Sapp. In fact, the two plan on recruiting heavily for Clemson this week. "We want to do that. We've already been talking about it," Gaither said. "We want to do everything possible to make this class better than it already is."
* Gaither, like many other highly ranked prospects committed to Clemson, has been keeping a close watch on the Tigers' 2006 recruiting efforts. "The main thing I try to do is just find out who's committed to us and where it looks like we'll be ranked at the end," he said. "I know we've got guys like Ricky (Sapp) and other guys that are highly ranked. I probably would be higher had it not been for my ankle injury. My ankle is fine now though."
