Head coach Tommy Bowden received good news Sunday morning after hosting three athletes on campus for official visits: he just landed the 16th verbal commitment in the 2006 recruiting class in Fork Union athlete Jacoby Ford.

Ford, who was recruited to Clemson by running backs coach Burton Burns, will have four years of elibility at Clemson after attending prep school for one year.

He also considered Virginia, Florida, Michigan State, and Southern Cal.

Ford could play a number of positions at Clemson but will most certainly see time as a kick returner, as he has been clocked as one of the fastest prospects on the east coast with 40 times consistently under 4.4.

"Most schools are looking at me at wide receiver and especially punt return, kick return because of my speed and my vision," Ford told Scout.com in a recent interview.

During his senior year in high school, Ford caught 22 passes for 550 yards and 10 touchdowns and was also named MVP of the Outback Bowl all-star game (in which he had a 10-yard TD run and impressed on kickoff and punt returns).

He also won the 100 and 200-meter races at the Class 2A state track meet as a senior with times of 10.32 and 21.25 respectively.

Ford is expected to enroll at Clemson in January.

CUTigers.com will have more on Ford's verbal commitment, as well as Clemson's other two official visitors this weekend, later Sunday afternoon.
