The Clemson Tigers are looking for more help on the defensive line in the 2006 recruiting class, and Sarasota High standout Walter Dublin still appears to be on the board.
The 6-3, 235 pound prospect now has two remaining official visits. "I probably have just two more. I have already taken visits to Iowa and Minnesota. I am going to Ohio State this weekend and then Clemson on January 13th," Dublin told CUTigers.com in a recent interview.
When asked if he has a leader, Dublin responded, "Right now my clear leader is Minnesota. I just love everything up there. The city is amazing. I fit into the program well.
"I know that anywhere I go I will have to compete for playing time, but I feel like I have a good opportunity for early playing time up there. They also have my major. I want to major in mass communications or journalism."
What would it take for Clemson to pull ahead of Minnesota? "I really like Clemson. They have a great program, but they already have commitments from two big-time defensive ends. That pulled me back from them a little bit. I am not sure exactly how strong their academic program is up there. I want to find out more about that on my visit. They have a great football program and I like the coaching staff," he said.
Coach Scott is recruiting the Florida standout for the Tigers, but Coach Hobby is also playing a role. "I have talked with Coach Hobby a lot also," stated Dublin.
Playing time will be very important when the prize recruit makes his final decision. "I don't mind competing for playing time, but I want to play football. I can't see myself sitting out a year as a redshirt," he added.
Within the last month, Dublin's head coach Bob Perkins, says that several schools have been making a hard push for his services.
"Florida won't have any students in this weekend, and Walter realized he has been to Gainesville enough that he can just take an unofficial visit there, if needed. Clemson has really becoming after Walter, hard, and he has a visit set there for January 13th. Virginia Tech recently came into the picture, and they are recruiting Walter very aggressively, as well. Ohio State remains in some contact, too," stated Perkins.
