Whitehurst Speaks with Three Teams

MOBILE, AL. - Three teams have already spoken with Charlie Whitehurst during his first two days at the Senior Bowl workouts. Which teams are they and what does his offensive coordinator, Norm Chow, have to say about Charlie's potential? CUTigers.com checks in, live from Mobile, with another report from the practice fields.

From the looks of things at the Senior Bowl, former Clemson quarterback Charlie Whitehurst is a popular man.

And why not? He's one of three quarterbacks on the North squad for Saturday's game, and he's been turning heads of NFL scouts throughout his first two practice sessions with his strong arm and pinpoint accuracy.

In fact, three teams have already conducted interviews with Whitehurst in just his first two days in Mobile.

"Miami, Carolina, and I'm going to talk with Kansas City today," Whitehurst told CUTigers.com when asked about the teams he's already spoken with. "I've talked to a couple already."

In addition, one team in particular has already expressed significant interest in the former Tiger: the Miami Dolphins.

"I met with coach (Nick) Saban, one of the coordinators and everybody there. We had a good talk, and I'm looking forward to getting to know them better.

"I think Miami is probably going to draft a quarterback. I think there are some other teams that will. You don't know what's going on in that war room, but you have to keep your eye on could potentially draft you."

Whitehurst said that his interviews have consisted of all kinds of questions. From general questions about the game to complex questions that help reveal his intelligence - just about anything goes when talking with NFL teams.

"There are some football questions," he said. "They want to figure out how well you can think. They ask you about game day and how you are feeling before the game. They want to get a feel of your intelligence, your competitiveness and your backbone."

Whitehurst's coordinator this week - Tennessee Titans' offensive coordinator Norm Chow, said Tuesday that he's been pleased with what he's seen of all his quarterbacks thus far – including Whitehurst.

"Charlie Whitehurst has obviously been very well coached," said Chow. "He has good technique. He just needs to keep working hard. Getting bigger, getting stronger. He comes from a nice system."

Chow also added the following comments on Vanderbilt QB Jay Cutler, who is also playing for the North squad in Saturday's game: "Cutler needs to be a little more consistent in what he's doing – his drops have kind of varied a little bit. But he'll be fine," Chow said.
