S DeAndre McDaniel
6-1, 180, 4.5
Godby High School
Strengths: Has great hands and excellent jumping ability. His biggest asset is his ability to make plays when the ball is in the air. McDaniel has great timing and plucks the ball out of the air at its highest point. Is able to go up and get the ball and makes things happen with the ball in his hands. Has great hips and flexibility. A true ball hawk. Athletic enough to play a number of positions.
Weaknesses: Ideally a safety plays around the 190 – 200 pound mark. DeAndre is not afraid of being physical but needs to add size and strength to be able to become a physical presence on this level. Has good speed, but can improve in this area.
Film Evaluation: McDaniel is a playmaker and is always around the ball. If he can get his hands on the ball he will bring it down. Arguably the most talented safety signed by Clemson since Brian Dawkins! Could be a projection for early playing time , but Clemson's safety situation has improved with the addition of Chris Russell and a redshirt year would allow DeAndre to get up to ideal playing weight.
