The No. 1 ranked Tigers improved to 3-0 with the 6-1 win, and the Dukes opened the 2006 season 0-3.

Herman Demmink led the way for the Tigers going 3-for-4 with an RBI and also scored a run. Clemson drew 10 walks against James Madison after drawing only five in the first two games of the series.

Josh Cribb (1-0) pitched 5.0 scoreless innings and earned the win for the Tigers, striking out seven and allowing two hits. Ryan Reid (0-1) allowed four runs (one earned) and five hits in 5.0 innings, and also walked five to take the loss for the Dukes.

James Madison threatened in the second after one-out singles by Mitchell Moses and Davis Stoneburner, but Cribb got Matt Sluder to fly out and struck out Joe Lake to end the inning.

Stan Widmann led of the third with an infield single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Adrian Casanova. Widmann went to third on an error after a failed pick off attempt, and scored on Demmink's single through the right side. Brad Chalk then doubled, and Tyler Colvin walked to load the bases with one out. However, the Tigers were unable to score another run.

In the fourth, Andy D'Alessio led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jameson Smith. Widmann walked, and with two outs Demmink reached on an error by second baseman Michael Cowgill, who had to range to his left and missed a tough hop. D'Alessio scored on the play and Widmann advanced to third. A balk by Reid scored Widmann and moved Demmink to second. Two wild pitches allowed Demmink to score as the Tigers took a 4-0 lead.

Casanova led of the sixth with a home run to left-center. It was the senior catcher's first career homer at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, as his four homers in 2005 all came on the road.

James Madison loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh after two walks and a single by Davis Stoneburner. Tiger reliever Ryan Hinson then struck out Brett Garner and Brett Sellers. Cowgill hit a sharp grounder at Demmink, but the Clemson third baseman could not field the ball cleanly, allowing Mitchell Moses to score on the error. Kellen Kulbacki flew out to left to end the inning.

Widmann drew a two-out walk in the seventh and then stole second. A wild pitch moved him to third, and he scored on a passed ball two pitches later to give Clemson a 6-1 lead.

P.J. Zocchi, Stephen Clyne, and Steve Richard all worked scoreless innings of relief for the Tigers.

Travis Storrer's 12-game hitting streak came to an end as he was 0-for-5 on the afternoon.

The Tigers return to action Friday when they host Mercer at 4:00 PM at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
