Arrelious Benn is one of the nation's elite football prospects among the Class of 2007. Benn, 6-1 and 200 pounds, stars on both sides of the ball from Washington (D.C.) Dunbar High School.
Last season he caught 49 passes for 1,050 yards and 17 touchdowns. He was also a star on defense as a strong safety.
"I prefer offense," said Benn. "I have speed, size and hands. But I still want and need to work on everything. I don't want to play defense. But I do it because they need me to. I play safety but I play in the box and just go the ball. I guess I have good instincts."
Benn claims 50 plus offers and at this time he is wide open.
"I like Notre Dame, USC, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Clemson, Oregon and UCLA and they have all offered.
"I talk to Jimmy Clausen a lot and I know he will likely end up at USC or Notre Dame.
"Notre Dame is a good situation for me at wide receiver. I went up there for their Junior Day and liked it. I like their offense and the way they spread the ball.
"The same with USC. And they are winning big right now and producing a lot of guys.
"I love that offense at Florida. It's like what we run. The coaches there seem pretty cool too.
"At Illinois, I love coach (Mike) Locksley. He's my man. That's an offense I like and I know I can play there quickly. And you gotta love that schedule they play against those great Big 10 teams.
"Maryland is the home team for me. I feel comfortable with them and they have a good program.
"Clemson and Oregon are two schools that I don't know too much about and I need to do some research on them.
"I like the offense at UCLA and they need wide receivers. I think that would be a good situation for me.
"Mainly, I am looking for a school where I can play right away. Distance is not a factor for me and I do not want to play defense. And I want schools to know that up front."
