2003 Profile: LB Michael Briggs

Michael Briggs makes a living knocking heads for Ashbrook High School. The middle linebacker prospect has good speed and excellent lateral movement, and he's already been camping at Clemson.

Michael Briggs is a hardnosed middle linebacker that doubles as a blocking fullback. "Yeah, I bang heads a lot during the game," laughed Michael Briggs. "I like playing defense better than I do playing fullback. That's what schools are recruiting me for."

Briggs just got back from camping at South Carolina and Clemson and may go to East Carolina before the summer is over. "My favorite schools right now are NC State, South Carolina, Clemson, North Carolina, and East Carolina. They're all pretty much even."

Briggs had a very good showing at the Nike Camp in Chapel hill in April. He turned in a 4.65 forty time and an even more impressive 4.53 shuttle. His shuttle time shows the lateral movement that is necessary to star at linebacker; something that Briggs does for his Ashbrook team.

Briggs was disappointed with his team's finish last season, but with 16 starters returning, Ashbrook is going to be dangerous this fall. "We went 6-5 last year, but we went 11-1 the year before. We should be pretty good this year though."
