SC DE Checks Out Clemson

Cliff Matthews, one of the top defensive ends in South Carolina, took an unofficial visit to Clemson Tuesday. has all the details in this recruiting update.

"I went up to Clemson on Tuesday. I went up with my coach and Brandon Reed," Matthews told in a recent interview. "It went real good. I talked with coach Bowden and coach Scott. Coach Swinney showed me around campus and the stadium."

The prize recruit was impressed with the WestZone. "They showed me the new building that they were building. It was really nice," he said.

For the past few weeks the Palmetto standout has had the Gamecocks as his leader. Did the unofficial visit to Tiger Town change his favorites? "No, it's still the same. South Carolina is my leader. Then Georgia and then Clemson."

The Cheraw standout is not done with the visits this month. "I am going to Georgia on April 29th. I may go to Virginia Tech this weekend, but I am not sure," he said.

Matthews also said that a verbal commitment is still months away for the talented defender. "I am still going to wait until later this year to make my decision," he said.

Which team is recruiting Matthews the hardest at this time? "I would say South Carolina," replied Matthews.

As a junior, Matthews recorded 66 tackles and two interceptions on defense in addition to 17 catches for 210 yards on offense. Top Stories
