Tigers Offer Notre Dame Commitment

Despite rumors that have suggested otherwise, Kerry Neal's verbal commitment to Notre Dame is firm as the athlete has no plans to visit any other schools.

"I'm firmly committed," said Neal. "I really don't see no visits [to other schools] in the future, I really don't. I'm firmly committed."

Neal revealed that an unofficial visit to South Bend a month ago sealed the deal.

"I loved it when I was up there," said Neal. "I hung out a lot with the players, they showed me around. The coaches were real cool. I felt like I was at home."

In spite of his commitment, new schools continue to extend Neal scholarship offers hoping to lure him away from the Fighting Irish.

"I've been offered by Florida and Miami, and Clemson also offered recently my coach said," said Neal.

Last weekend Neal participated in the Shrine Bowl Combine held in Jamestown (N.C.). After checking in at 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds, Neal recorded a 4.85-second 40-yard dash, a 4.68-second 20-yard shuttle, a 31.3-inch vertical jump, and 19 bench repetitions of 185 pounds.

Although the Notre Dame coaching staff isn't sure where to play Neal, he was named conference defensive player-of-the-year as a junior for his play at defensive end for Bunn (N.C.) High School. He collected 111 tackles, 14.5 sacks, and two interceptions. Neal also caught 16 passes for 323 yards and six touchdowns on offense.
