Division Champs!

CLEMSON – Even though the Clemson baseball team entered Sunday with the Atlantic Division Championship in possession, it didn't prevent the Tigers from continuing to focus on the task at hand – to keep winning.

That's exactly what No. 7 Clemson did as it came out and took an 11-2 victory over No. 17 Florida State (37-15, 14-12 ACC) to complete the three-game sweep Sunday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

It's the first time Clemson has swept the Seminoles since 2000. It also pushes the Tigers' winning streak to 11 games and guarantees them either a first or second seed in the ACC Tournament.

With three games left in the regular season, Clemson has a two-game lead over North Carolina for the overall regular season title.

"We knew coming into today that we'd clinched the division, but that's a small piece of the puzzle," said Tigers starting pitcher Jason Berken, who allowed two runs in 6.2 innings of work to improve to 8-3. "It means nothing right now. It's a good accomplishment, but our main goal is to get to Omaha (for the College World Series)."

Berken isn't the only one that feels the division title is somewhat insignificant. When talking to the players, it's obvious the entire team feels that way.

"We've clinched the division, but by no means should start to get we get complacent," said senior designated hitter Herman Demmink. "We have to want more and we have to continue to play that way. …

"We have to continue to stay hungry and know that we have not accomplished all of our goals yet. Even though we've clinched the division that means nothing to us right now."

Should the Tigers (39-13, 21-6 ACC) continue to play as they have during this winning streak, there seems little doubt they will accomplish many, if not all, of their goals.

The offense continues to assault the baseball as Clemson has scored at least 10 runs in five of its last 10 games.

Leading the hit parade Sunday were Demmink, Brad Chalk, Marquez Smith, Taylor Harbin and Andy D'Alessio, who each registered two hits, with Smith, Harbin and D'Alessio hitting home runs.

"We've been moving people around a little bit just trying to get people in the right part of the order," Tigers coach Jack Leggett said. "It seems to be working for us. … Hitting is contagious and if you don't hit, that's contagious, too. Hopefully we'll just keep ourselves going."
