Bowden and Clemson assistant coach Dabo Swinney paid a visit to Cheraw last week to see the 6-5, 230 pound defensive end prospect.

"Coach Bowden and Coach Swinney came by last week," Matthews told "I also had visits from coach Spurrier and coach Reeves from South Carolina. And coach Bunting from North Carolina and coach Price from Auburn."

When asked about his current leaders are, Matthews responded, "South Carolina, Georgia and Clemson in that order."

The Cheraw standout is not sure about his summer camp plans yet, nor about a possible timeframe on a verbal commitment. "I'm not sure yet. I'm still working on it [camp plans]," he said. " I am still waiting to see all of my options for a commitment. It might come this summer."

Interestingly enough, Matthews will be spending part of his summer on the hardwood as opposed to football field. "I will probably go to the team camp for basketball. I am going to Columbia for a couple of tournaments and I will probably play AAU basketball also," he said.

But before working on his jump-shot, he'll visit Clemson this weekend for the NIKE camp. "I am going to the Nike camp this weekend. Looking forward to it. I will be going with coach Harrell," he said.

Matthews added that he continues to hear from another Palmetto standout. "I still talk with [South Carolina commitment] OL Quintin Richardson. That is the only one," he said.

As a junior, Matthews recorded 66 tackles and even two interceptions on defense in addition to 17 catches for 210 yards on offense. Top Stories
