Q & A with OL David Overmyer

David Overmyer comes from one of the top football programs in the south in Parkview High School. Not only is he one of the top offensive linemen you'll find in the Peach State, he also is teammates with fellow D-I prospects Brandon Pilgrim and Zeb McKinzey. All three have long lists of scholarship offers, but right now Overmyer gives the Tigers a slight edge heading into the 2002 season.

Big OL David Overmyer is another stud from Parkview High School that looks to play major college football somewhere in the south. With several offers already on the table, he now has narrowed his official list down to 5 schools.

David came away from camping at Clemson several weeks ago very impressed, and that feeling has continues to stay with him today, even though he's been to Auburn since then. Here is the latest from the big fella in our latest Q & A session.

What are your latest vital stats?
HT: 6'4.5
WT: 266
40: 5.17
BENCH: 325

Which camps have you been to so far this summer?
I've been to Clemson and Auburn. Clemson went really well, Auburn was good, but I'd still say I liked Clemson's a little better. I was supposed to go to Virginia's tomorrow, but something happened with the plane to get up there. I'm going up there now on the 26th of July. I'm also going to Georgia's on Friday and Saturday.

What stands out in your mind from your experience at Clemson?
It went real well, I liked Coach West, he treated me right.

Which coaches from Clemson have been in contact with you the most? Just Coach West, he is the recruiting coordinator for this area, as well as the offensive line coach so he's the only one I've talked to really.

What about from Georgia?
Coach Bobo has been my main contact.

Have you thought about what when would be a good time to make a decision on your school of choice?
I'll decide after taking all of my official visits. I'm going to take all 5.

Which schools will you be visiting officially?
Clemson, Georgia, Virginia, Auburn, and Florida State.

Which of those schools have offered you already?
Clemson and Virginia. Auburn said I should expect something soon. Georgia is holding back a little bit. Coach Bobo said that they are going after the specialists first because they have such good depth on the offensive line.

Do you and Zeb McKinzey and Brandon Pilgrim ever talk about going to the same school? Would that be something that's important to you?
We've talked about it a little bit, I think we will all end up wherever we end up, whether it's the same school or not. We are all going to Georgia for their camp this weekend, and I went with Zeb to the beach for the 4th of July.

Which beach was that if you don't mind me asking?
Panama City, Florida. It was wild down there, we had a great time.

Which schools would you say make up your top 5 right now?
Clemson, Georgia, Virginia, Auburn, and Flordia State.

As an offensive lineman, would you say that you are a better pass or run blocker?
The coaches say I'm pretty even right now, I guess I enjoy run blocking as opposed to pass blocking. I like to get after people and get those pancakes. With pass blocking you generally have to wait for the guy to come to you. I'd just rather get after it right away.

Would location be important to you in your final decision?
Well, I wouldn't want to go to California or anything, but anywhere in the south would be alright. Locaction doesn't really matter.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?
As a team, we want to repeat as state champions. We like to take it one game at a time, none of this "back-to-back" stuff. For myself, I probably need to improve some on pass blocking.

Have you and Zeb and Brandon made plans to go the Clemson-Georgia game in Athens?
Yeah, we were all looking foward to it, then our schedule came out, and we play our first game that day in the Georgia Dome, so we won't be able to make it.

We'd like to conclude by thanking David for taking the time to speak with us.
