Tigers Now Lead for Upstate Speedster

This speedster out of Broome High School in Spartanburg is quickly becoming one of the most highly recruited receivers in all of South Carolina. Is an offer coming soon from the Tigers, who already hold an early lead? CUTigers.com has all the details in this recruiting update.

The offer list and overall interest level for Broome WR Markish Jones (6-1, 190, 4.37) has grown quickly over the past few weeks.

"I have offers from East Carolina, Marshall, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tulsa and Middle Tennessee State. Some of the other schools I am hearing from Clemson, Tennessee, South Carolina and Penn State," Jones told CUTigers.com in a recent interview.

Are the Tigers close to offering the upstate speedster? According to Jones they are.

"Coach Blackwell just called yesterday," he said. "They said they were going to offer pretty soon. He said they were excited about me. He was pleased with my performance at the Clemson Nike camp."

When asked if he had any current leaders, Jones responded, "Clemson would be my favorite right now. It would either be Clemson or South Carolina," he said.

What does Jones like about both schools?

South Carolina: "I like coach Spurrier. I like the spread offense they run. They like to throw the ball a lot."

Clemson: "I like the same things about Clemson. I like their coaches and their offense as well."

South Carolina will get a chance to evaluate Jones in-person on Wednesday. "I am going to South Carolina on Wednesday for an individual workout. I will be working out for coach Spurrier junior," he said.

The Broome standout then plans to visit Clemson later this summer. "I am supposed to go to the senior camp at Clemson. They have one in late June and another in early July," stated Jones.

The summer visit tour cranks also up this weekend for the rising senior.

"I am going to take most of my visits over the next few weeks. I am going to East Carolina on Friday. On Saturday I am going to Middle Tennessee State. I am going to Kentucky on June 15. I am going to Florida State on July 1 and Penn State on July 15," he said.

Jones also says he could play receiver or defensive back at the collegiate level. "Most of them want me for receiver," said Jones. "Florida State says it depends on how I do when I come down, I could be a receiver or corner. Tennessee is looking at me for defense."
