2003 Profile: CB Phillip Brown

One of the top cornerbacks in the south is none other than Phillip Brown, a speedster with all the tools you'd like to see in a true cover corner. As one of the top athletes in Virginia, the two-way standout has two top choices- and the Tigers are one of them. Details inside.

Last season Phillip Brown registered 47 tackles and four interceptions on defense, and he also brought in 30 passes for 915 yards and 16 touchdowns on offense.

"Most teams are talking to me about playing corner," said Brown in a recent interview. "But a lot of schools are just talking about me coming in as an athlete."

While the Tigers like him primarily as a corner, the standout athlete also returned four punts for scores last season, which makes him a threat on special teams as well. "I really like Clemson and Virginia Tech right now," said Brown in his most recent interview.

Brown has decent size at 5-feet, 11-inches tall, and blazing quickness with legitimate 4.4 speed. However, he won't be attending any camps this summer, as he tries to stay at home to workout with his team.

"I'm not planning on going to any camps this summer," said Brown. "We're working out as a team this summer, and I want to be here for all of the workouts."

Virginia Tech has held the slight edge with Brown since the beginning of the recruiting process. Brown attended the Hokies spring game, as well as their Gator Bowl contest against Florida State in early January.

Other teams like North Carolina State, Virginia, Notre Dame, Maryland, and Tennessee have all moved in-and-out of his top 5 schools in the last several months. "I have offers from Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Clemson, N.C. State, Tennessee, Michigan State, and Indiana," said Brown.

If anything, it seems very likely that Brown is still making up his mind as to which schools will get an official visit. "I'm going to take all of my visits before I make up my mind," said Brown.

The all important official visit will likely determine the Tigers' fate with this fine athlete. We will continue to keep you updated on Phillip Brown as we receive more information throughout the upcoming season.
