Lake City linebacker Scotty Cooper had been a reported lean to Clemson for months. Friday afternoon, he decided that lean needed to be made a little more official.

After staying in Clemson two days for one of the Tigers' summertime camps, Cooper decided he had seen enough and pulled the trigger on a verbal commitment.

"I am still at Clemson," Cooper said when reached by telephone earlier. "It went real well today. I got to talk to all of the coaches. Coach Blackwell was teaching me some stuff at linebacker yesterday. I also got to talk with Willy (Korn), Xavier (Dye), and Landon (Walker). We talked a lot yesterday and just hung out. I played against Korn in the seven on seven. Xavier was on my team for the seven on seven.

"It was just talking with Willy, Xavier and the guys. I also got to speak with some of the players. I got to talk with Anthony Waters for a little bit. It was nice to spend some time talking with all of them and seeing that we all got along so well."

Cooper, who was expecting to leave Clemson today to take a visit to Tennessee, ended up staying before deciding on his verbal commitment.

As a junior, Cooper was recognized as an All-Region selection after racking up 96 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, and four sacks.

He chose the Tigers over offers from Michigan, South Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Kentucky. will have more from future Tiger linebacker Scotty Cooper, later this afternoon. Top Stories
