Commitment in the Works for 4-Star RB?

4-star running back Roddy Jones will make a return trip to Clemson this week with his family as he closes on a verbal commitment. Could the Tigers inch their way past Georgia Tech to land this top ground gainer? CUTigers.com has all of the details in this recruiting update.

RB Roddy Jones Profile

Roddy Jones, a 5-10, 185 pound running back prospect out of Atlanta camped at Georgia last Friday. Sunday, he talked about his trip to Athens and more with CUTigers.com.

"It went well. I think I did well. I ran in the low 4.5's both times. I think that was good because we ran on turf and I had just played baseball as well. I only stayed for the camp Friday because I had a baseball game," Jones said.

Did the camp visit earn the Chamblee standout a scholarship from the Dawgs?

"They told me about the running back situation," he responded. "They told me about the running backs they have offered so far. They did not offer me there, but they said they are interested and will stay in touch."

When asked about his current leaders, Jones responded, "It is still the same. Georgia Tech and Clemson are the leaders. If Georgia was to offer they would jump up there and be one of the leaders too."

A verbal commitment should come over the next few weeks for the Georgia standout. "I am still thinking it will be July or August. It will definitely be some time this summer. I want to get it over with before the season," he said. "And I am going to have to go with what I have. I am not going to wait on an offer that might not come along."

Interestingly enough, the 4-star running back will also make another visit to Clemson later this week. "I am going to Clemson on Thursday. I will be bringing my mom, dad and maybe my grandmother. She is down from DC for a family reunion so she may come with us."

Jones says he plans to see some things he wasn't able to see during his camp visit in June.

"I haven't met with the academic people yet," said Jones. "I also want to see the new renovations to the stadium. I want to sit down and talk with the coaches. I got to talk a lot with coach Burns at the camp, but I didn't get to talk much with the other coaches. I want to talk with coach Spence and coach Bowden on Thursday."

Could a commitment to the Tigers come on Thursday? "There is always a chance," he said. "When I feel the time is right I will make a decision. We will have to see how it goes. It could come Thursday or it could come three weeks from now."

Finally, the Yellow Jackets will get another visit on Saturday from Jones. "I am going to the Tech camp on Saturday. I am not going to participate. I am going down to watch some of my teammates and cheer them on during camp. I will also talk with the coaches some," he added.
