Gilchrist Readies for Big Announcement

The unofficial visits are all over for the nation's No. 9 cornerback, Marcus Gilchrist. After returning home from visits to Georgia and Clemson this past weekend, the prize recruit is now preparing to announce a verbal commitment. has the latest in this recruiting update.

The 5-11, 175 pound prospect traveled to Athens, Ga. on Thursday and stayed until Saturday. "It went pretty well. The people were all very nice. It was a good all around school," Gilchrist told

What was the highlight of the Georgia visit for the star corner? "I would have to say talking with coach Richt," replied Gilchrist.

Saturday afternoon on his way back from Georgia, Marcus and his family stopped by Clemson for one final visit.

"That went well also," he said. "We got there around four o'clock. First we got a tour of the WestZone. Then we went back and talked with coach Bowden. Then we got to see the dorms."

Head coach Tommy Bowden had a long conversation with Marcus and his parents. "We talked with coach Bowden about 25 minutes. We talked about a bunch of things. It wasn't just about football. We talked about life in general."

And now comes the fun part: announcing a decision on a verbal commitment. While he has yet to go on the record with a favorite, it is believed that Clemson, Georgia and North Carolina (in that order) have the best chance of signing him next February.

According to Gilchrist, he's just about ready to go public with an announcement.

"I will probably announce my decision this week. I am not sure when yet. I need to talk with my coach about it. I might have a press conference.
