The nation's No. 14 defensive tackle recently told CUTigers.com that he plans to visit Clemson later this month. Can the Tigers land another top prospect from North Carolina? CUTigers.com has the latest in this recruiting update.

DT Tydreke Powell Profile

6-3, 285-pound defensive tackle prospect Tydreke Powell is planning to visit Clemson later this summer.

"Yeah I am going to try to get down to Clemson before the end of the July. I will be coming down my father," Powell told CUTigers.com in a recent interview.

Scout.com currently ranks Powell as the No. 14 defensive tackle prospect in the country. Not surprisingly, he has the offer list to prove it, including full rides from Clemson, Miami (Fla.), Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Auburn and North Carolina among others.

When asked about his current leaders, Powell responded, "Right now I am just open. I am trying to give everyone a chance. I would rather not have a leader right now."

The prize recruit will be narrowing the field over the next few weeks so his visit to Clemson will be critical to the Tigers' chances.

"I am going to try to narrow it down by the end of this month or early next month," he said.

The North Carolina standout has already visited two in-state schools already had has one other visit he would like to make this summer in addition to Clemson.

"I have already been to North Carolina and North Carolina State. I am going to see Texas A&M on July 25. That will be about it," Powell said.

What is Powell looking for in the college of his choice?

"I am looking for a great coaching staff. I also want to look at what type of players I will be around. Academics will also be important," he said.

Last season, Powell was the defensive player opposing offenses ran away from. Regardless, he still managed to be among the state leaders in sacks with 11.
