Can Napier Land Another Star Recruit?

Clemson tight ends coach Billy Napier has proven to be a great hire with his early success on the recruiting trail. Napier is also playing a major role in the recruiting of one of Clemson's top tight end targets, Brian Linthicum. CUTigers.com has the latest on Linthicum as he closes on a commitment.

TE Brian Linthicum Profile

The 6-5, 230 pound prospect traveled west this week for a little rest and relaxation, and also for an unofficial visit to California.

"I came out to visit University of California. We visited on them on the 20th. It was a good visit. We staying out here for a few days on vacation also," Linthicum told CUTigers.com.

Expect a verbal commitment from the St. Anne's-Belfield (Va.) standout in the next few weeks.

"Right now I am going to announce my decision on August 3rd. I am not planning to have a press conference. I am just going to call the coaches," he said.

When asked about his current favorites, Linthicum responded, "I have basically a top five. I like California, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Michigan State and Boston College."

A new team could also join his top five on Monday.

"Then there is Alabama. They haven't offered yet, but they would be in my top five if they do. They are supposed to let me know on Monday," Linthicum said.

How does the prize recruit plan to determine where he will commit in early August?

"I am starting to focus on just playing tight end. That may eliminate Boston College. I am also thinking about location," he said.

And what about Clemson? Where do the Tigers stand if he had to make a decision today?

"I hear good stuff from Clemson every day. Tight end is their No. 1 position they are recruiting for right now and I know I am one of their top priorities. I fit into their system well. I hear from coach Napier and coach Hogan often," he said.

"I have one more visit to Virginia Tech. Then right after that I will decide."
