One of the top receivers on the east coast, took an unofficial visit to one ACC school this week and could make another visit later this week. CUTigers.com has the latest on the east coast standout in this recruiting update.

WR Jay Smith Profile

Jay Smith, a 4-star receiver out of Virginia Beach area, visited North Carolina State on Monday with his father.

"It went real good," Smith told CUTigers.com of his visit. "They showed me the campus. It was a nice campus. It was all red, which is one of my favorite colors. I got to talk with a lot of the coaches too."

Smith also said the Tigers could get a visit later this week.

"I think we are going to Clemson on Friday," he said. "But I am not sure. I need to check with my dad to see. I will know for sure later this week."

When asked if he has any current favorites in the recruiting process, Smith responded, "I don't really have any favorites right now. I am looking at all of them and trying to narrow it down. I should be able to narrow it down before the season starts or sometime during the season."

Jay's father recently told CUTigers.com that the following seven schools made the cut: in no particular order they are Clemson, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Miami, Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

What will be important when Smith decides where to attend college?

"I just want to find somewhere that meets my needs," Smith responded. "I want to go somewhere that can get me where I need to go both academically and with football. I want to major in architecture. I will also look at the overall scheme and the coaching staff. The stability of the coaching staff will be very important."

A commitment will likely come late this year or closer to signing day.

"It will most likely be toward the end of the season or after the season. I am going to visit a couple of other schools. I am going to visit Miami in September. I am not sure of any others right now," he added.

Smith turned in an impressive performance at the Scout.com Durham Combine earlier this year. After running a 4.47 40-yard dash, and consistently beating every cornerback he faced in one-on-one drills, he was named the MVP of the camp.

Defensive line coach Chris Rumph is recruiting Smith for the Tigers.
