The Clemson Tigers picked up their 12th verbal commitment in the 2007 recruiting class today when Charlottesville, Va. tight end Brian Linthicum announced his decision during a 3:00 PM press conference.

Linthicum announced his commitment to Clemson over his other top school, California.

"It came down to my relationship with the coaches," said Linthicum. "Coach Napier, coach (Paul) Hogan, coach (Rob) Spence and coach Tommy Bowden. Plus Clemson has facilities that are top notch. The new WestZone is nice. They are all very appealing.

"One other reason would be Willy Korn. I have spoken with him a lot. We will be roommates. He is a great person and I can't wait to play with him and get to know him more."

Linthicum also said he plans to graduate from high school early so he can enroll in college in January.

In a recent interview, he said that's one of the main reasons he's ready to put the recruiting process behind him.

"Since I am a December graduate I need to apply within the next few weeks so I can get admitted and get my schedule set," he said. "I also wanted to get it out of the way before my season starts. I didn't want any distractions."

Linthicum, who was recruited to Clemson by tight ends coach Billy Napier and graduate assistant Paul Hogan, also said he is firm in his commitment to Clemson.

"It won't change," he said. "I am solid with Clemson."

Linthicum also had scholarship offers from Boston College, Purdue, Virginia Tech and California. Top Stories
