McDaniel Hopes to Enroll in January

Former 4-star safety and Clemson signee DeAndre McDaniel will be making a pit stop at prep school this fall, but his current plans include an arrival at Clemson next January.

DeAndre McDaniel had hoped to be competing for a starting job in the Clemson secondary this fall, but instead he is now preparing to spend a semester at a prep school.

"I am going to Hargrave," McDaniel told Monday evening. "I leave on Saturday. I'm am going up on Saturday with teammates Kareem Crowell and Emanuel Francis who will also be attending Hargrave this year.

"But my plan is to get to Clemson by January."

McDaniel said he's looking forward to playing with his old teamates again.

"Yeah I will play up there this fall. They had a pretty good team last year. It will be fun to play with my teammates again," he said.

Of course, the Tigers still have McDaniel as part of their long term plans, and coach Tommy Bowden even spoke with the former 4-star recruit this past weekend.

"I actually talked to coach Bowden on Saturday. He just told me I have got to go up there with my head straight. I just need to get the test out of the way and be ready to come up to Clemson in January," he said.

Coach Swinney has kept in touch with McDaniel as well.

"He has just been telling me he will stay in touch with me every week. He says they are looking forward to me coming in January and working for a spot," he said.

When asked if he was being recruited by any other schools now that he is heading to Hargrave, McDaniel responded, "No, I am solid. I will be going to Clemson."

And what about DT Kareem Crowell? The Tigers were very much interested in his services this time last year.

"I'm not sure what he wants to do," said McDaniel. "If he opens it back up I've got the pressure on. He has to decide. If he decides to open up I will be pushing him to Clemson."

The 4-star safety added that he spent much his summer working out to be ready to compete at the next level.

"I didn't do much this summer but I have been working out and running. I am up to about 195 right now. I am trying to be up to the 200 mark before I get up to Clemson in January." Top Stories
