Quick Hits with James Davis

CLEMSON - CUTigers.com caught up with former ACC Rookie of the Year James Davis this week to get his thoughts on Saturday's season opener against Florida Atlantic.

James your sophomore season gets underway Saturday against Florida Atlantic, how are you feeling right now entering a season where there are so many high expectations for this team?
Davis: Well we've worked hard through the offseason to get to this point. We've been talking about wanting to win the ACC and get to a BCS Championship. That's our goals this year and we expect to get them.

What kind of year do you think your back up, C.J. Spiller is going to have?
Davis: C.J. is a great guy. He's coming along fine during preseason camp and he's working hard. I wish him the best this season. The thing with him is that he's picked up all the plays quickly. If you can do that in this offense, and with his skills, you can get on the field. He's been successful. He's going to play and he's going to do well.

How did James Davis improve during the offseason? What will fans notice about your game this year that they may not have last year?
Davis: I feel I can help protect the quarterback better for one. That's something I worked on ... and that starts in the weight room. I don't want to just run the ball. I want people to know I can block too.

What have you seen of the Florida Atlantic defense that could give you problems potentially?
Davis: We've seen them on film and we know they've got some players down there. But the bottom line is we've got to be ready to play. That's on us.

What have you seen from Will Proctor? Can he lead this team back to 10 wins?
Davis: Most definitely. He can make all the throws that Charlie could and we all know that. We are confident in Will and what he can do on and off the field. Plus he's been in this offense a year longer so he can make the decisions a little faster which should help us.
