4-star DE Planning Death Valley Visit

As expected, Cheraw defensive end Cliff Matthews will be visiting all three of his favorites this fall. CUTigers.com has the latest on one of the top players in South Carolina for the class of 2007 in this recruiting update.

DE Cliff Matthews Profile

Matthews told CUTigers.com in a recent interview, "I am going to Clemson next weekend for the North Carolina game. I am still hearing a lot from Clemson."

Last week the Cheraw standout visited Columbia where he watched Georgia shutout South Carolina.

"I had a good time down there," he said. "I got to talk with some of the other prospects. I talked with Quintin Richardson, Gary Gray, Travian Robertson and Brian Maddox. I also got to talk with some of the coaches."

The talented defender is off to a fantastic start on his senior season.

"Our season is going good," he said. "We are 3-0. I have 12 sacks, 36 tackles and 12 tackles for loss. I also had a reception this week for 33 yards at tight end."

When asked if he has a current leader in the recruiting process, Matthews responded, "I don't have a favorite. I just have a top three, but nobody is leading. It is still Georgia, South Carolina and Clemson."

Could another school join the battle for his services this fall?

"I don't think so," he said. "Unless someone like Southern California or Texas got involved.

"I will make my decision after I have taken my official visits. I am going to take an official visit to Georgia on October 7th for the Tennessee game. I am not sure yet when I will take my official visits to Clemson and South Carolina." What will Matthews consider when selecting a school over the next few months?

"I will be looking at the coaching staff and fan support," he responded. "I will also look at academics. I will be looking for a little bit of everything. I will also be looking at playing time."
