2003 Profile: S Nicos Chavis

Nicos Chavis is a hard hitting safety from Atlanta that will show off his coverage skills this year playing more corner. He has been busy at several camps this summer, and he has 2 favorites.

Chavis is a hard hitting safety with good instincts for pass coverage. He has a good frame and could add more weight to become even more of a force in run support. He finished his junior campaign with 54 tackles and 5 interceptions, 2 of which he took back for touchdowns. He has been busy at several summer camps working to get better.

"I've been to Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, and Duke this summer," said Chavis. "Clemson and Florida would probably by me 2 favorite schools. After those 2, I like Georgia, Duke, and Georgia Tech. Most of them are recruiting me to play free safety, but this year I'm going to be playing a lot more corner. We want to use more press coverage, and I can use my cover skills on the corner a bit more. We're bringing back a pretty good team. We only lost one starter off of the defense last year."

With 10 starters coming back including the versatile Chavis, look for the Lakeside defense to make its mark on several opponents this year. Top Stories
