Tigers Close the Diehl

Byrnes linebacker Chad Diehl picked up a scholarship offer from Clemson on Thursday and just a few hours later he went ahead and announced a verbal commitment.

Chad Diehl finally knows he'll be a Clemson Tiger.

Diehl contacted CUTigers.com Thursday afternoon just moments before calling the Clemson coaching staff to give them the big news.

"I knew today was big day. I talked with coach Bowden, coach Blackwell and coach Napier at the game Saturday night. They said they would get back to me this week. I had just gotten back from field trip and coach Bentley called me into his office. It was the most exciting thing I have ever heard.

"I am going to call coach Blackwell in a minute and go ahead and commit."

Diehl said he the feeling is about as unbelievable as anything he's ever experienced.

"It is awesome man," he said. "I don't know the words to explain it. This is the happiest I have felt in a long time. It is a dream come true. This is what I have wanted for so long.

"I have been waiting for a long time. I just kept positive. Coach Bowden and coach Blackwell had told me how it would happen. They were straight with me the whole time. They did exactly what they said they would do."

Diehl, who is now the fourth member of the Byrnes Rebels to commit to Clemson this year (QB Willy Korn, WR Xavier Dye, LB Stanley Hunter) also has scholarship offers from Virginia Tech, Duke, Wake Forest and Marshall.

With Diehl's commitment in the bank, the Tigers now have 16 verbal commitments in the 2007 recruiting class.

Diehl is also the third and likely the final linebacker in the 2007 class to commit to the Tigers.
