Korn Finally Connects with Dye

MAULDIN, S.C. - Byrnes fans and Clemson fans alike have waited a long time to see future Clemson quarterback Willy Korn hit the field with future Tiger receiver Xavier Dye. If the first game is any indication Rebel fans and Tiger fans have a lot to look forward to. CUTigers.com spoke with 5-star quarterback Willy Korn after Byrnes routed Mauldin Saturday afternoon.

QB Willy Korn Profile

"It was good having Xavier out there making plays for us," Korn told CUTigers.com. "Teams can't double cover us any more. They came in and knew we wanted to throw the ball so they packed the box. We did a good job with that. Xavier is just a huge weapon for us."

The 5-star quarterback threw several screen passes to Xavier that turned into big plays.

"Yeah they were bringing seven on six guys on almost every play," he said. "We knew the screen was going to be there. We just wanted to get the ball to our athletes."

Although Dye has five catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns, Korn expects to see Dye play even better now that he has played his first game with the Rebels.

"Well basically this was his first game and his first test of the season," said Korn. "I think he played well. He had a couple of drops that I'm sure he's thinking he should have made, but that is all with the first game. It was just his first game so he was just getting that out of the way. He is going to be good to go for next week."

Of course the Rebels have their sites on their biggest goal of the season - another state championship and possibly a rematch with Gaffney.

"We got one more game against Boiling Springs that we have to take care of. Then we will get ready for the playoffs. Whoever we have to play we will play. We just need to make plays," replied Korn. Korn added that both him and Xavier will be back in Death Valley again this weekend to watch his future teammates battle Maryland.

"I will be there," stated Korn.
