Tigers, Gators Battling for Culliver

The Clemson Tigers already have nine of this year's Shrine Bowl standouts committed to the Tigers. Will another of North Carolina's best also head to Tigertown? CUTigers.com brings you the latest in this recruiting update.

DB Chris Culliver Profile

6-1, 190 pound safety prospect Chris Culliver visited Death Valley where he saw the Tigers whip Georgia Tech in October.

"It was a nice visit. I liked everything. The people were great. The coaches showed me some love," Culliver told CUTigers.com in a recent interview. "I talked with coach Bowden before the game. He told me hopefully they would get to use me on offense some as well if I do decide to go to Clemson."

Culliver had the opportunity to speak with two other Shrine Bowl prospects during the game.

"I talk to Marcus [Gilchrist] a lot. We talk about playing together in the same defensive backfield. When I went to Clemson for the Georgia Tech game I talked to Willy [Korn] and Marcus. Willy was talking trash to me and Marcus about the Shrine Bowl."

Where would the prize recruit sign if today were national signing day?

"I don't know. I would probably come down to Clemson and Florida," he said.

Two other teams are also trying to make a late push for Culliver.

"South Carolina and Florida State are trying to work their way in there. Right now it is just Clemson and Florida," he said. "Hopefully I will try to make a decision in December. I had hoped to make a decision in November, but it is already here. I haven't taken any officials yet. I might be ready to make a decision by Shrine bowl week."

Culliver also said he plans to make several more trips this fall.

"I have not been to Florida yet. I am going to try to go down on November 11 to see them play South Carolina," he said. "I may go down for the Clemson - NC State game. I will also try to go down for the game against South Carolina." The star athlete is having a great senior season for Garner High.

"Our season is going real well," he said. "We are 9-1 right now. Hopefully after Friday we will be 10-1. I'm not sure of my exact stats but I have between 15 and 20 touchdowns. I also have two receivers. I am still making plays. I am doing returns, playing a little receiver, playing some running back and playing defense."
