Top Junior DT Back in the Valley

One of the top junior defensive linemen in South Carolina was back in Death Valley Saturday afternoon. CUTigers.com has the latest on the visit and his outstanding junior season in this recruiting update.

DT Sam Hammond Profile

Star defensive tackle Sam Hammond helped lead Union to a huge upset of Greenville High School last Friday night.

"It was great," he said. "It was a big win. Everybody was doubting us. I had a couple of tackles and 2.5 sacks.

"This week we play Greer. I think we can beat them this time if we stop the pass and shutdown their rushing game."

The Clemson staff was not able to watch Union upset Greenville Friday night, but they did listen to the game.

"They were listening to the game on the radio. Coach Blackwell told me he was listening to our game on the radio Friday."

Saturday afternoon Hammond found himself back in Death Valley to watch the Tigers battle the Terps.

"I liked it. It was good even though they lost," he said. "I came up with coach Brent and Cody Hawkins."

The Tigers are not the only team showing lots of early interest in the junior standout.

"I am also hearing from Notre Dame, Tennessee and Louisville a good bit," stated Hammond. "But Clemson is still my leader."
