Tigers Make Cut for 5-star RB

The national exposure of Clemson's explosive running attack and some old relationships of coach Burton Burns have the Tigers in the mix for one of the nation's best running backs again this year. CUTigers.com has the latest in this recruiting update.

RB Joe McKnight Profile

Joe McKnight, a 5-11, 185 pound speedster has recently dropped a few schools while moving the Clemson Tigers up on his short list for official visits.

In an interview with CUTigers.com Sunday afternoon, McNight said, "I have decided not to go visit Miami or Florida State. I am going to take official visits to LSU, Southern California and Clemson. I might also look at Arkansas."

What does McKnight like best about his top schools?

Southern California: "I just like how they play the running backs. They play them all over."

LSU: "They are SEC football. They just line up and play football. They are just like my school."

Clemson: "I like how the running backs get the ball. I watched one game and saw where Spiller and Davis both had over 120 yards. My interest has been growing in Clemson."

McKnight also added that Clemson running backs coach Burton Burns is a major reason the Tigers in the mix.

"I really like coach Burns," he said. "He came down and visited me one time and sense then we have just been talking a lot on the phone. A few of my high school coaches played for coach Burns when he was at Tulane. They all have nice things to say about him."

Earlier this season McKnight helped John Curtis defeat the nation's number one ranked high school Hoover. This week, he's look forward to the next round of the playoffs.

"We won our first playoff game last week," McKnight added. "This week we move on to the second round against one of our district teams."

If McKnight were to sign with the Tigers in February, he would be the second player in recent history from John Curtis High School to sign with Clemson. Former Clemson wide out Curtis Baham was the other.
