Newton Names a Leader

One of the most exciting prospects in the Southeast is quarterback Syvelle Newton. He does it all for Bennettsville Malboro County High School. Last season, he passed for 1,790 yards and 23 scores and rushed for 1,990 yards and 21 touchdowns.

"Syvelle is the real deal," said Malboro County Head Coach Dean Boyd. "He has a strong arm, speed, moves and is strong. Syvelle can juke you and run you over. He has great savvy and football instincts. This kid just makes plays."

Newton, 6-2 and 215 pounds, claims he is a better runner.

"I am," said Newton. "The bottom line is that I just try and go out there and makes a play."

According to Coach Boyd, Newton has thirty plus scholarship offers and right now, the electrifying quarterback has one leader.

"I am favoring South Carolina. It is close to home and I can play early there. Those things are very important to me. I also like Clemson, Georgia Tech and Florida."

Newton has a brother, Cameroon, that plays free safety at Furman. It is important to him that his mother and father get to see him and his brother play college football. Top Stories
