Rumph After 4-Star Texas Standout

The Clemson coaching staff is building up frequent flyer miles as they travel to visit the top remaining prospects on the recruiting board. Coach Rumph will get plenty of miles as he travels to Texas to meet with a 4-star prospect that is planning an official visit to Clemson in the next month.

Don't talk to Billy Chavis about recruiting. At least, not right now.

The 6-5, 225 pound tight end prospect out of Westbrook, TX is still focused on trying to help Westbrook win a state championship.

"I haven't set any visits up yet. I am just playing ball right now. We are still in the playoffs. We are in the third round now," Chavis told in a recent interview.

The prize recruit could play several positions in college.

"So far I've been playing defense all year," he said. "I started out playing in the secondary. I have three interceptions on the year. I also played linebacker and some defensive end. I have 90 tackles, five sacks and two forced fumbles on the year.

In terms of recruiting, Chavis says he has a good idea of where he'll take his official visits.

"I do know that I am going to take official visits to Iowa, Clemson and Missouri. Those are my top three schools," he said.

Clemson defensive line coach Chris Rumph is recruiting Chavis for the Tigers.

"Clemson is recruiting me as an athlete," Chavis said. "Coach Rumph is my recruiter. He is pretty cool. He is talking about coming down next week for a visit.

"I don't care where I play. I just want to play."

Any timing on a verbal commitment is not clear at this point.

"I'm not exactly sure when I will make a decision. Whenever I do it will be because I've found the place I'm comfortable. I hope to take my official visits this year. I am not sure about the schedule yet," Chavis added. Top Stories
