QB Willy Korn Profile

As his high school career winds down, 5-star QB Willy Korn is preparing to take his only official visit- to Clemson University.

Monday evening, CUTigers.com caught up with the future Clemson signal caller to see what's on the agenda this week.

"I should be leaving after school on Wednesday and get to Clemson around 4:30. My dad will be taking me down, but he won't be able to stay. I will be staying with Xavier (Dye)," Korn told CUTigers.com.

"Xavier has the schedule of what we will be doing. I think we are going out to eat on Wednesday night together. Thursday we will tour the facilities and meet with coach Spence. Thursday night we are all going over to coach Bowden's house. He is having all of the guys that are coming this week over for dinner. Rob Gronkowski, Landon Walker and Brian Linthicum will also be there.

"After dinner Thursday night we will have some free time with our player host. My host will be Will Proctor. I think Xavier's host will be Aaron Kelly. Friday morning we will have our one on one interview's with coach Bowden."

The Byrnes standout will try his best to convince Gronkowski to join the Tigers.

"I got to talk to him during the Maryland game," he said. "He is the No. 1 guy we are trying to get at tight end. We already have a good one with Brian, but we need another tight end."

There are several other recruits including another U.S. Army All American that Korn plans to call.

"I am going to call Joe McKnight pretty soon," Korn said. "My dad saw the game where they beat Hoover. He said we need to get him wearing orange. I will also probably give Dwight Jones a call. I have heard he is pretty solid to North Carolina but it would be nice to build a relationship with him."

The star quarterback is also making sure he fits his workouts in his busy schedule.

"I have been lifting and throwing after school. I lifted today," Korn said. "I am going to lift again in the morning before school since I have so much going on later this week. I have my official visit. Then Friday night I to go to Myrtle Beach for the Mr. Football banquet. Then Saturday I report to the Shrine Bowl."

Next week Willy will spend his time with at least eight of his future teammates at the Annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

"It is going to be a blast," he said. "I can't wait to get to know them better. We are really a close nit group. We all hang out at the games together. I am real thankful that we have such a great group coming in together. Marcus and Landon have been talking trash. We will see next week. I am looking for a good week from the Sandlappers."

Then, in early January Korn will head to San Antonio for the US Army All American game.

"I don't think my dad will be able to come out. bit it is looking like coach Bentley will be out there and my receivers coach will be out there," Korn said. "I am probably going to room with John Brantley."

What did Korn think of Clemson's season, and in particular the offense?

"I think the defenses knew they were not going to let us run," he said. "They knew that is what Clemson was good at. The defenses just stopped the run and tried to make Clemson beat them with the pass. It was a good season considering all of the injuries they had. I am really proud of all the guys. They really fought hard. I hope they take care of business against Kentucky in the bowl game and get some momentum going into next year," replied Korn.

After spending a week in San Antonio for the Army All American game, Willy will have little rest before enrolling at Clemson.

"Right when I get back on January 7 I will have to get ready for school. Classes start on January 10th I believe." Finally, Korn talked about his goals for spring practice.

"I just want to learn as much as possible from Cullen, Tribble and Michael," Korn added. "I also want to learn as much as possible from coach Spence. I want to get as good an understanding of the offense as I can. I know it will be a lot faster. I want to get use to it with the practices and get adjusted to the speed of the game. I just want to go out and have fun. There are not too many people that get to go play division 1 football at a place like Clemson. I am really looking forward to it."
