Offensive lineman Marion Dukes gave his verbal commitment to Coach Bowden today around 3 o'clock. "I've been wanting to go to Clemson ever since I was little," said Dukes. "I just felt like the right time was today, so I just went ahead and did it. I have the chance now, why blow it?"

Marion Dukes Profile

Marion Dukes (6'4, 290, 4.98), one of the top rated offensive linemen in South Carolina this year out of Pickens High School, gave his verbal commitment to Head Coach Tommy Bowden today at 3:25 PM.

Dukes, who could play either guard or tackle at Clemson, has been a Tiger fan ever since he can remember, and it was that passion that ultimately led him to his verbal commitment.

Marion is the fifth verbal commitment for the Clemson Tigers, and the third offensive lineman. Here's what the big guy had to say about his commitment:

How have things been going for you this year?
Dukes: Great, awesome. We are undefeated through 7 games. I've been playing good, grading out in the 80's for the most part.

What schools are recruiting you the hardest right now?
Dukes: Clemson, Georgia, and South Carolina.

Have all of those schools offered you a written scholarship?
Dukes: Yes, all of them have.

Have you been to any of the games this year at Clemson?
Dukes: Yes sir, I went to the Louisiana Tech game. I'll probably go to the one this weekend. I've been to Clemson games for so long now, I'm pretty much used to it now.

Some people have said you have committed to Clemson already, what do you have to say about that?
Dukes: I have committed to Clemson already, today at 3:25. I called Coach Bowden to tell him. He just told me welcome aboard and he was real happy.

Congratulations! What made you decide to go ahead and commit today?
Dukes: Well, Clemson has always been home for me, and when I was little I always wanted to be a Tiger. You know, I have the chance now, why blow it? I wanted to think more about the rest of our season here and concentrate on my school work too.

How do you feel about playing time next year?
Dukes: I think I could come in a play on the second team, I think I really could. I mean, I could go out there and go hard enough and play on the first team, but it's up to the coaches. I'm just going to give a 100% and whatever happens, happens.

Are you going to be taking your official visits?
Dukes: I haven't set any official visits yet, but I'd like to take all five of them. Yeah, I'll probably go to South Carolina and Georgia, just to check it out, but I'm pretty much a Clemson guy.

Do you have a pretty good relationship with Coach West?
Dukes: I'd say so. He likes me, I like him. We get along real good.

What was it about Clemson that really attracts you there right now?
Dukes: Well, the coaches and the team. The team is on the verge of being a pretty good team. They almost beat Florida State. It's just home to me. Just watching them play and going and sitting in the stands, I can see myself playing there.

Have you talked to Coach West about which position you'll play at Clemson?
Dukes: Either guard or tackle. I'm not sure yet, it just depends on how I do when I get there.

Marion Dukes becomes the 5th public verbal commitment to Clemson this year, and the 3rd offensive lineman. We'd like to conclude by thanking Marion for allowing us to break this story first on CUTigers.com.
