Korn Ready to Lead SC Offense

ROEBUCK, S.C. - Early in the week the South Carolina Shrine Bowl defenders held the upper hand, but now 5-star quarterback Willy Korn and Sandlapper offense are coming on strong. CUTigers.com spoke with the future Tiger quarterback after Thursday mornings practice session.

QB Willy Korn Profile

Willy Korn and the rest of the South Carolina Shrine Bowl team had a light workout Thursday morning.

"Yeah, we are really just going over plays now," Korn told CUTigers.com. "We are just getting everything mentally ready. We were going over different formations, different packages and different motions. It was really more of a mental practice today.

"The afternoon will be the same kind of deal. We will practice with no pads in our pants. It will just be a really light practice. We will tone it down and get ready for the game on Saturday."

Korn said the offense has progressed quickly after just a few days of practice.

"We are starting to really jell as an offense," he said. "We are really starting to get use to each other. Yesterday we played really well. We threw some deep passes to Junior Hemingway and Markish Jones. The offense is starting to click and it is only going to get better as we progress to Saturday."

Korn has obviously been in close contact with most of South Carolina squad this week, but one player he's been working with extensively is Broome wide out Markish Jones.

Jones, like Korn, will also be at Clemson next year.

"He is going to be a tremendous receiver at Clemson," Korn said. "He has great speed. He runs great routes. He is really quick. It is good to just come out here to build a relationship and get use to how he runs his routes."

The 5-star quarterback has enjoyed getting to know his future teammates on a more personal level this week.

"They have been a blast," Korn said. "All of my teammates here have been great. We have really had a fun time. We are taking it seriously, but at the same time we are having as much fun as possible. I really love the guys here and I'm glad I got to play with them."

How will the Shrine Bowl experience help Willy perform at the US Army All American game?

"It will really help me for the All American Bowl. Just to get use to the speed of the players I will be playing against. They will be even faster out at the All American Bowl, but this is really going to help me to get use to the speed of the game and going up against the type of athlete I am playing against this week.

"Both of these games are really just helping me get ready for spring ball. It helps me get ready to go though workouts in January and February. This is really helping me out a lot."
