Tigers Make Late Push for SC DT

The Clemson Tigers are making a late push for another South Carolina defensive tackle. What will it take for the Tigers to overtake the current leaders? CUTigers.com has the latest in this recruiting update.

DT William Brimfield Profile

William Brimfield, a 6-5, 290 pound defensive tackle prospect got an offer from Clemson last week after the staff reviewed highlights of his senior year.

"I got an offer from Clemson on Thursday. Coach Rumph called me and told me. He is from around this area. We talk a lot. He said they loved my tape," Brimfield told CUTigers.com in a recent interview. "Clemson is moving up the charts right now," said Brimfield. "To be honest though, the teams that are in the lead right now are South Carolina and Tennessee."

Tennessee paid Brimfield a visit last week.

"Coach Fulmer was here Tuesday and explained some things. I am going to visit Tennessee on January 12," he said. "I am going to visit North Carolina on January 19. I will visit Clemson on January 26."

What will it take for Clemson to pull ahead of the two current favorites?

"Well I really don't know," replied Brimfield. It is like I was telling the coaches. I knew I was out there, but I was kind of a sleeper. I am a big guy. I know what I am capable of doing.

"It is going to take a lot of work. I know most of the schools want me as bad as Clemson. There are still two months left before signing day so they could pull it off.

The one time North Carolina commit says the coaching changes have hurt their chances.

"North Carolina moved down when coach Bunting got fired. Then one of my other favorite coaches, coach Pearman, was fired. I still keep up with him. He called me to congratulate me on the Clemson offer North Carolina is kind of even when Clemson right now. They are going to have to pull one off like Clemson."

What will be important as Brimfield makes his final decision?

"I will look at academics," he said. "I will see if they fit my major. I would like to major in Physical Therapy or Sports Medicine. The second thing I will look at is the facilities. I want to see where I will be staying. I will also look at the guys and the coaches that I will be around.

"I will make it in the next month or so. I might not take all of the visits. I feel like I still have some time," replied Brimfield.
