Central Spirit T-shirt Sales Go Online

After extreme demand from students and alumni alike, Central Spirit's unique T-shirts are now available for purchase online through Tiger Town Graphics (www.tigertowngraphics.com). The T-shirt sale is being kicked off with a Clemson vs. UGA shirt featuring the tag line "Old Grudges Never Die." T-shirts may also be purchased directly from Tiger Town Graphics in downtown Clemson.

According to Barry Jones, Central Spirit Web page designer, Central Spirit has been getting requests for these shirts from Alumni for years, and when Tiger Town Graphics came along, it seemed like a positive collaboration and a step in the right direction for athletic promotions.

Central Spirit is a student-operated spirit organization responsible for "The First Friday Parade," the organization of the Homecoming Float competition, pep rallies, distributing balloons and painting faces at all Clemson home football games and other selected athletic events on campus.

The organization is most widely recognized for organizing, sponsoring and overseeing First Friday, which has become a staple of Clemson athletics. Central Spirit is in charge of creating the theme for the parade and coordinating the float building, as well as deciding which organizations march in the parade.


First Friday is paid for by the sale of T-shirts by Central Spirit the week of the first home football game.Central Spirit's sales committee is responsible for all revenue generated for the organization, but most importantly designing and selling all Central Spirit T-shirts related to First Friday, Homecoming, and other football games deemed worthy of a T-shirt.

Tiger Town graphics in downtown Clemson is responsible for the success of these unique T-shirts. Not only have they provided custom screen printing and embroidery services to Central Spirit and other on-campus organizations, but they are now selling Central Spirit's T-shirts on-line.

"Hopefully the expanded market will mean a more substantial budget to lead to bigger and better promotions for Clemson Athletics," said Jones.

Bigger and better refers to the king of promotions at Clemson University, the once legendary Spirit Blitz. In 1983 and 1984, Central Spirit and student government organized Spirit Blitz week, which consisted of activities all week long such as a campus wide Hokie hunt for Virginia Tech. On game day, over 300,000 balloons were released for the first Blitz and the following year, place were spread all over Death Valley with an "Up Roar '84" design.

Other T-shirts that will be available this semester are First Friday (Louisiana Tech), Homecoming (Wake Forest), and South Carolina.
