Clemson - Florida State Game Notes

Clemson's No. 18 national ranking in USA Today is the program's highest in any poll since the December 28, 1998 rankings when Clemson was 14th in AP and 16th in USA Today.

• Clemson and Florida State are both ranked in the top 20 in the nation in the RPI heading into games of January 2. Clemson was ranked 13th and Florida State was ranked 17th. Clemson is also 10th in he latest Sagarin computer ranking.

• Clemson forward James Mays has played in 25 consecutive Clemson victories, the first 11 games of last year and all 14 games this year. He is currently sixth in the ACC in rebounding, third in steals, ninth in field goal percentage, eighth in blocked shots and fifth in offensive rebounds.

• Clemson is one of three undefeated teams entering Wednesday night's game. The others are UCLA (12-0) and Oregon (13-0). UCLA and Oregon face each other on Saturday at Oregon.

• K.C. Rivers has scored in double figures in every game this year even though he has not started. His 14-game streak of consecutive double figure scoring games as a reserve is a Clemson record, breaking the previous record of seven in a row by Dale Davis in 1988-89.

• Clemson has won each of its last eight games by double digits, one off the Clemson record for that category.Clemson has 11 of its 14 wins by double digits so far this year and the Tigers have trailed in the second half in just two of the 14 games.

• Clemson's 14-0 start is the second best start and second longest winning streak in Clemson history. The only streak that is better is a 17-0 record to open the 1986-87 season.

• Trevor Booker is coming off his first career doubledouble. The freshman had 15 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Georgia State on Dec. 31.

• Clemson will play its ACC opener on the road at Florida State. Clemson has not won its ACC road opener since the 1996-97 season when it won at Virginia.

• Clemson finished its non-conference record at 14- 0, the first perfect record in regular season play against non-ACC foes since 1995-96 (10-0).

• Georgia State is the only common opponent for Clemson and Florida State so far. Clemson defeated the Panthers 67-57 and FSU won 87-55.

• The home team has won 14 of the last 16 games in this series. But, Clemson won in Tallahassee in 2004-05.

Clemson Has Won 14 in Row to Open Season
Clemson has won 14 consecutive games to open the 2006-07 season, the second longest winning streak in Clemson history at any point and the second best start to a season in Clemson history. The 1986-87 Tigers led by Horace Grant won their first 17 games of that season and that is both the best start and the longest winning streak at any point in school history.

Here are some notes about Clemson's 14-game winning streak to open the season:

•Nine of the 14 wins have been at home, while two were on neutral sites and three were on the opponent's home court.

•11 of the 14 victories were by 10 points or more, including each of the last eight. Seven of the 14 were by at least 20 points.

•Five of the 14 wins were over teams who appeared in postseason play last year.

•Three of the victories were over SEC teams (South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi State), the first time in Clemson history the Tigers have beaten three SEC teams in the same year.

•Clemson started the same five players in all 14 victories.

•Clemson had a +19.1 scoring margin, a +8.7 rebound margin and a +4.14 turnover margin for the 14 games.

•Clemson was out-rebounded just once in the 14-game winning streak.

•Clemson's bench has out-scored the opposition's bench in 12 of the 14 games. Only games Clemson did not win the bench scoring was Mississippi State and Georgia.

•The Tigers had the advantage in points in the paint and points off turnovers in 13 of the 14 games during the winning streak. Only Georgia State had the advantage in points in the paint and only Old Dominion had the advantage in points off turnovers.

•Clemson never trailed in four of the 14 victories and has trailed in the second half in just two games (Monmouth and Mississippi State). Clemson has not trailed inside the last seven minutes of any game all season.

Clemson vs. Florida State Series
•This is the 47th meeting between Clemson and Florida State in men's basketball. The Seminoles hold a 25-21 lead. The two teams split the season series last year with each team winning on its home court.

•Clemson swept the season series in 2004-05, winning at Florida State 56-54 in January and 83-74 at Clemson in February.

•Clemson had a three-game winning streak under Oliver Purnell over the 2004-05 and first game of the 2005-06 season. The three consecutive wins in the series were the most for Clemson since Florida State entered the ACC and the most for Clemson in the series since the Tigers won the first three games of the series between 1956- 60.

•The home team has won 15 of the last 17 in the series. One of the road wins took place under Oliver Purnell at Tallahassee in 2004- 05. Purnell is 3-0 at home against Florida State.

•The two teams have split in the regular season six of the last eight years.

•Nine of the last 17 meetings have been decided by five points or less or in overtime. Three of those close games took place in the ACC Tournament.

•Clemson has a 4-14 all-time record in Tallahassee, including 3-12 in the Leon Country Civic Center, now known as the Tucker Center. The wins came in 1961-62 (82-77), 1996-97 (76-70), 1997-98 (78-49) and in 2004-05 (56-54).

•Seven of the 12 Clemson losses in Tallahassee at Leon County have been by six points or less and Florida State's largest margin of victory over Clemson in the Leon Country Civic Center is 13 points. They did win last year's game over the Tigers in Tallahassee by 10. Top Stories
