Purnell Postgame Press Conference

CLEMSON - Listen to Clemson head coach Oliver Purnell after Saturday's game against Boston College.

Oliver Purnell
"Three things jump out at me. We were tough, though we had to be with Boston College. We made some shots, led by Cliff Hammonds, which makes it easier and puts us right where we need to be. Their shooting percentage went down in the second half, and we did a good job taking care of the ball."

"We should be tough out here. We're at home in a good environment. It was a good, solid win here today."

"We played smarter today as well. We made better shots. When the game was on the line, we made good decisions. So, I thought we played aggressive and well today."

(Regarding the turnovers) "We have good guards, a good perimeter. Cliff Hammonds, Vernon Hamilton and the others are experienced. When we take care of the ball, we have a good chance to win. It is a huge advantage."

"BC didn't sub for a while and had. I thought that caught up with them a little bit. When we went to our bench, they delivered."

"This is an unbelievably tough league to play in. If you think you can sprint through, it just isn't going to happen. The key is not going through a dry spell. The teams in this league are tough and play tough and will beat up on each other."

Boston College Coach Al Skinner
"We need to adapt to playing short-handed. This is the team that we are going to have the rest of the way. The problem was our execution wasn't what it needed to be on offense. The game just got away from us toward the end of the first half."

"Overall, our defense just wasn't that good. It doesn't matter who was on the floor. No one individual was going to make a difference today. I think that we now lack interior fouls. We just don't have 10 fouls to give away inside anymore."

"Rice was playing a little faster than we wanted. When your point guard is playing at one speed, and the rest of the team is playing at another, you are going to have some turnovers. We need to do a better job helping him. We didn't communicate well as a team, and that's something new for us."

"No question that fatigue was a factor out there, but we didn't play at our pace. When things go right for you, guys tend to keep their focus a little better, and when things don't go right, you start to get a little tired."

"Clemson did a much better job executing their game plan than we did. I saw some lack of concentration on our part. We were coming out of timeouts and guys were running the wrong play, and that is just a lack of concentration."

"We were not consistent. I always feel that we'll beat most team shooting two-pointers. But when a team is making three's like they were, we are going to have a hard time beating them."
