Time to Close the Deal

Thursday afternoon three Clemson coaches met with Markish Jones for the final time before signing day. Were the coaches able to firm up Jones' soft commitment during the visit? CUTigers.com has all the answers in this recruiting update.

Three clemson coaches met with Markish Jones and his mother Thursday afternoon.

"It went great," he said. "They came by a little earlier. They came around one. Coach Bowden, coach Blackwell and coach Bowden came by the house. They stayed for about an hour."

Earlier this week Markish told CUTigers.com that he had a number of questions he hoped the staff would answer during the visit. "They just answered all of my questions. They showed me a copy of the letter I am going to sign on signing day.

"I was mostly talking. I asked about my future. I asked where I fit into the program. They said I was going to be a big part of the plan. From the first day of practice they said I will start as the number two Z receiver and A receiver."

When asked if the staff had firmed up his commitment, Jones reponded, "Yeah, they firmed it up. I am still going to visit Alabama, but I would be a firm commitment now. They answered a lot of my questions. I feel a lot more comfortable now."

Coach Swinney told Markish exactly how Clemson plans to use him next fall. "He just told me I have a chance to do well. He told me they would not redshirt me. He told me to put my trust in him. He told me about his track record of putting receivers in the league. He told me for the last 3 or 4 years they have had receivers make 1st team All Conference."

The Shrine Bowl offensive MVP is not sure which day he will travel to Alabama. "It depends on the weather. If I don't leave tomorrow I will leave Saturday morning. I am going to come back Sunday."

The Palmetto standout plans to call several former Tiger receivers over the next few days. "I am actually going to call some of their past receivers. I am going to call Currie and Stuckey to find out more about Clemson."

Markish's mother enjoyed the in-home visit as well. "She had some questions answered as well. She feels real good about things."
