It was the first time in his head coaching career that a Tommy Bowden coached team (Tulane or Clemson) had allowed a kickoff return or punt return for a touchdown. It was the first kickoff return for a touchdown against Clemson since 1990 when a Duke player (Leroy Gallman) went 78 yards for a score in Death Valley.
