TIGERS SCRIMMAGE WEDNESDAY: Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden met with the media after Wednesday's scrimmage, the first since the Tigers returned from spring break, and said his defense was slightly ahead of the offense.
"Defense was a little ahead," Bowden said afterwards. "Was disappointed we had a little trouble running it. We've got four senior linemen out there in Barry Richardson, Pilgrim, McDuffie and Capote. So those guys need to step up a little bit.
"I think most places you'll see defense is ahead of the offense. I think that's a good sign because you win championships with defense. I prefer that."
Bowden also commented on the play of several of his defenders, including freshman safety DeAndre McDaniel once again.
"Byron Maxwell, Sadat Chambers (stood out). There are a bunch of guys on defense," he said. "DeAndre McDaniel again. Occasionally he makes a play. Whether it's an interception or a hit.
"Sadat had a big hit today on Aaron Kelly. Aaron caught the ball and Sadat really knocked him down good."
Despite solid play on the defensive side of the ball, Bowden still said he was pleased with his quarterbacks.
"(They are) good. We are still working four guys and trying to give the guys some work so we can create separation," he said.
The Tigers will practice again Friday and Saturday this week.
