Future Clemson lineman David Smith spent the weekend at Clemson where he attended the annual Orange & White game in Death Valley.

"It was fun," he said. "I loved it. I finally got to see another game. I enjoy it every time I go down to Clemson."

"I went to Clemson on Friday. I spent the night with Thomas Austin on Friday. I got to talk to everyone at the game. I got to speak with coach Bowden before the game."

Another star lineman from the Greenville area, J.K. Jay, committed to Clemson on Saturday. Smith has gotten to know J.K. Jay very well over the past few months.

"I know J.K. very well," he said. "I can pretty much call him my brother now. We talk about every day. We talk about everything, not just football. We talk about life and about church. He is real cool. We are like brothers.

"I haven't seen him play yet, but we have worked on some things. I have tried to show him some things that will help him at the combines. I have been talking him through the process. I didn't want to rush him, but I am glad he went ahead and committed to Clemson."

The workout plan from the Clemson coaching staff has Smith working hard every day.

"I have been running and working out hard every day except for Saturday and Sunday," he said. "I have gained about 15 pounds. I am up to 285 now. I have also gotten faster."

The star lineman will be heading to Clemson in just over two months to start his career.

"I am going up for the second summer session. I will be going up to Clemson the last week of June," said Smith.

The Greenville High standout can't wait to get to Tigertown.

"I am way too excited," he said. "I probably need to calm down a little. I have dreams every night. I told my coach this morning how the trip this weekend really made me want to get to Clemson." Top Stories
