Palmetto State LB Down to Clemson, USC

One of the top linebackers in the southeast has narrowed his leaders to two. Could a commitment to the Tigers come during a summer camp visit? has all the details in this recruiting update.

LB Jonathan Willard Profile

6-2, 205 pound linebacker Jonathan Willard (Loris, S.C.) had visits from Clemson and South Carolina coaches earlier this week.

"First coach Spurrier and his son came by," he told Tuesday afternoon. "Then coach Bowden and coach Swinney came by. They both came by on Monday."

All returns were positive from both visits.

"The visits went well. I couldn't actually meet with the coaches, but I heard good things," said the talented defender.

When asked about his current leader, Willard responded, "I really don't know right now. It is kind of hard. It is down to an in-state battle. It will be Clemson or Carolina."

What are his favorite aspects of both schools?

Clemson: "I like their education program. I like the graduation rate at Clemson. I also really like the team."

South Carolina: "I like the weight room. I also like their stadium. I haven't really seen the campus yet."

The Palmetto state standout has strong family ties to Clemson, but he says his family will support his decision.

"They just want me to go to the best school. They are behind me no matter where I go," said Willard.

There is one family member pushing Willard hard towards the Tigers. Former Clemson Tiger Richard McCullough wants his nephew in Tigertown.

"He is pushing me pretty hard to Clemson. He just tells me some stuff about what he did while he was at Clemson. He tells me how much he liked it there," said Willard.

A verbal commitment should come from the prize recruit over the summer.

"I will camp at Clemson and South Carolina. I hope to have my decision by the end of the camps," stated Willard.

Willard recorded 130 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and four forced fumbles as a junior. Top Stories
