In less than two months, one of the top prospects to sign with the Tigers in the 2007 recruiting class, cornerback Marcus Gilchrist, will head to Clemson to begin his college career.

In a recent interview with CUTigers.com, Gilchrist said he'll be arriving on campus in early July.

"I will be going to Clemson on July 2," he said. "I am going up for the second summer session. Right now I've been doing a lot of track. It is going good. I am doing the 200, long jump, 4 X 100 relay and the 4 X 200 relay."

Clemson's Billy Napier paid a visit to his prize recruit during the spring evaluation period.

"Coach Napier came through earlier this month on a Thursday and Friday. He came and watched me work out. He told me he can't wait for me to get there. He said he is proud of me. He didn't have to tell me to work hard. He knows he doesn't have to tell me that," said Gilchrist.

Another standout from Andrews High School is now being recruited by coach Napier and the Tigers.

"Coach Napier is looking at one of our rising juniors. He is looking at defensive tackle Charles Goodwin," said Gilchrist.

Gilchrist helped Andrews to a successful year on the basketball court once football season was complete.

"Yeah we had a good year," he said. "We lost in the game before the state championship."

The U.S. Army All-American has been keeping in touch with one of his future teammates.

"I have been talking with Markish Jones some. We have just been talking about track and stuff. I think I will try to do track at Clemson as well," said Gilchrist.

What are Gilchrist's goals for his freshman year?

"I just want to contribute to the team in any way that I can. They have been talking about using me on kickoff returns and punt returns," he said.

"I'm really excited about it. I can't wait to get down there and work out with the team. I am looking forward to getting out there on the field again. I am ready to put on that uniform. In the meantime I have been working hard in the weight room. I have also been running and doing drills on the field. But I can't wait to get there."
