4-Star OL Ready to Narrow the Field

This 4-star offensive lineman told CUTigers.com Thursday evening he's just about ready to narrow down his list of top schools. CUTigers.com has all the details in this recruiting update.

OL R.J. Mattes Profile

6-6, 260 pound star lineman R.J. Mattes just returned home from his final football camp of the summer.

"I just got home yesterday from a team camp with Robinson," he said. "It was tiring. We did three-a-days. It was a good team bonding thing.

"But right now I think I'm done for the summer. I want to start focusing on high school football. I am going to get ready for Robinson."

When asked about his current favorites in the recruiting process, Mattes responded, "Well, actually in the next two weeks I will narrow it down. I am going to sit down with my dad and pick a top five."

Mattes said he speaks with a number of college coaches frequently, including Clemson recruiting coordinator Billy Napier.

"I actually just talked to coach Napier yesterday," he said. "He wanted to know when I am going to be ready to make a commitment. I told them I wanted to wait it out a little bit. I want to take all of my official visits during the fall."

Not surprisingly, the official visits will be critical to Mattes in the decision process.

"I want to take the visits and see how I fit in with the teammates. I also want to see the game day experiences," said the star lineman.

What does Mattes have planned for the rest of the summer?

"I am working out with the team. That is about it. I am practicing for football and basketball. I am also done with vacations. We went up to Pennsylvania for the week of the 4th," he added.
