4-star offensive lineman R.J. Mattes, a 6-6, 260 pound tackle prospect out of Concord, N.C., made an unofficial visit to Clemson Friday.

"I came down with my mom and my little sister Amber," Mattes told CUTigers.com. "We got there around 3 o'clock. Coach Napier took me down to watch the workouts. We went and watched them lift. He introduced me to a lot of the players.

"I spent the night with Landon Walker. We talked about football all night and played a little Play Station 3. He told me to make the best decision for me. He said Clemson was the best decision for him. We got along well. He is also a big NASCAR fan," said Mattes.

Clemson assistant/recruiting coordinator Billy Napier also spent a good bit of time with the star tackle during the visit.

"That went good. He told me how ever since day one he thought I could be the left tackle next to Landon. He showed me the depth chart and how I would fit in if I go to Clemson," said Mattes.

With his Clemson trip in the books, Mattes said he has now developed a clear top five.

"I have narrowed it down to a top five. My top five are Clemson, South Carolina, Virginia, North Carolina State and North Carolina," said Mattes.

His visit to Tigertown is the last visit planned for the summer.

"It is football season now. I am done with visits for now. I am going to take official my visits during the season and get up to see some games," said Mattes.

Does the North Carolina standout plan to be in Death Valley on Labor Day?

"Heck yeah. I will be there for that one," replied Mattes.

Mattes is currently ranked the No. 29 offensive tackle prospect in the country according to Scout.com.
